Weaving the mandala that weaves you
Hi, I am Sveta. Mandala weaving is one of my favorite handicrafts. While I was traveling in India in 2011 I saw yarn mandala for the first time, I noticed some colorful circle in a cafe and took immediate interest in it. Very soon my curiosity was satisfied as I met a talented mandala weaver who taught me the basic technique of weaving and shared everything she knew about these magic circles.
Since my childhood I was always very attracted to the handmade works, making beads bracelets, knitting clothes and small woolen toys, but since I met Ojos I was deeply charmed. I never crafted something so interesting and satisfying. All process of mandala creating is very involving… You never know how the final picture will look because any further color you add and any next geometric form you create changes the whole view. So, during next few months I couldn’t stop, weaved one by one, presented it to friends and felt so happy. The more I was weaving the more tricks revealed themself to me. All salesmen of yarn shops adored me as after my visit they had the week’s receipts:).
Not long before the meeting with that woman I already drew many black-and-white sketches and I definitely wanted to inscribe each of my compositions into a circle. For me it was like an unexplainable whim till I’ve got to know about mandalas.
With time I am only more interested to evolve myself in this craft, realizing that there are an infinite potential to play with shapes and colors. While weaving I slowly noticed how my mind becomes peaceful and all disturbing thoughts leave me. I noticed as well that it's impossible for me to find a harmony in my Ojo until I found it within myself. Thus mandalas are playing with me and teaching me. Now my creative inspiration is framed in a better way than I could ever dream.
Some time ago few of my friends suggested the idea that i should open my own internet shop. The idea was appealing and full of possibilities, and now I am here and glad to share my sense of beauty with you.
